MIA Records Healthy Growth in May, Unstable Situation of Southeast Asia Market04 Jun 2014

Macau International Airport (MIA) recorded positive growth in May 2014, with passenger volume and air traffic movements increasing 16% and 6%, respectively, compared with same period last year, over 430,000 passengers and 21,000 movements. In order to meet future increase in demand, MIA constantly enhances infrastructure development and services, the new Express link facilities which located at the north side of the passenger terminal have been put into use from May 15. This new facility gained approval and support from the related government departments and other aviation entities. As always, MIA incorporates with the objectives of the Macau SAR Government tourism policy, providing quality services and functional facilities for passengers.

During the Labor’s Day holiday, the volume of local people travelling out recorded growth comparing to the same time last year, coupled with continued growth of the mainland and Taiwan routes. MIA maintained the overall passenger traffic while Southeast Asia routes slightly dropped due to the recent political unrest in regions. MIA is optimistic about the prospect with the government actively coordinating with tourism parties, joint efforts of the industry, continuously improving passenger services, which should minimize the adverse effects of political factors. Overall, an increase of 11% has been recorded from January to May this year, mainland China and Taiwan China markets were recorded increases of 20% and 14% respectively.
