CAM Visits Guangdong Airport Management Corp.13 Mar 2011

Dr. Deng Jun – Chairman of Board of Directors of Macau International Airport Company Limited (CAM) led a delegation of 6 people, including Ms. Liu Suning – Executive Director, Ms. Katy Lo – Chief of Executive Committee Office, Mr. Eric Fong – Director of Marketing Department, Mr. Frankie Wu – Assistant Manager of Marketing Department and Ms. Vicki Mou – Assistant of Executive Committee Office, to visit the Guangdong Airport Management Corporation on March 8 and was warmly received by Mr. Liu ZiJing – President of the Guangzhou International Airport Corp. and the representatives. The two sides had communications and discussions of the two airports’ operation and development orientation.

Mr. Liu first expressed thanks for the visit of CAM. In the past year, the Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport successfully completed the renovation projects and transformation of related services for the Asian Games, which enables significant enhancement in the services provided. The annual passenger throughput exceeded 40 million that is considered an important milestone in its development history. Guangdong Baiyun International Airport ranked the 18th in the global airport services the Airports Council International (ACI) released in the third quarter of 2010. In the fourth quarter, the Airport ranked the 7th in the global evaluation of integrated airport services, which is its first time to get into the world top ten as well. In the new year, the Guangdong Airport Management Corp. and Singapore Technologies Aerospace Company Limited (ST Aerospace), the world’s largest airframe maintenance company, officially established a joint venture – Shanghai Technology Aerospace Company (STARCO). The license was officially issued on March 2 with the Guangdong Airport Management Corp. holds 51% stake while the ST Aerospace holds 49% stake. It was reported that the construction of STARCO will be commenced in the first half year. The first hangar is expected by the end of this year, and a total of 6 hangars will be successively completed within ten years. Expansions are expected for airport facilities, including the open up of the third runway that involves a total investment of RMB20 billion.

Dr. Deng mentioned about the various crises the Macau International Airport (MIA) encountered last year, but it can still successfully transform from a transfer airport to a destination airport, completed 4.07 million of passengers traffic, of which 93% are destination visitors; more than 52,000 tons of cargo traffic and over 37,000 flight movements. There is an increase of 16.8% in the Airport’s overall revenue over 2009. This year, the MIA will have a number of reforms which promote a more diversified development. As for the "Guangdong-Macao Cooperation Framework Agreement" the Guangdong Provincial People’s Government and the Macau Special Administrative Region Government signed in Beijing on March 6, Dr. Deng expressed concern for it, especially the perfection of regional airports joint meeting mechanism, strive for national support in the expansion of Pearl River Delta airspace and implementation of 24-hour clearance at Gongbei port, to enhance airport communication and cooperation mechanisms and improve the PRD airspace conditions while both sides have the consensus to continue strengthening exchanges in various aspects. Finally, Dr. Deng proposed arranging civil aviation management trainees from Portuguese-speaking countries to visit the new Guangdong Baiyun Airport and have exchanges. Mr. Liu expressed full support for the program on behalf of the airport to have rapid development in civil aviation affairs.
