CAM Chairman Deng Jun Meet with the Ms. Celia Lao, CEO of Air Asia (HK & Macau) Air Asia Committed to Build Greater Bay Area Aviation Network03 Mar 2020

The air traffic in Macau has been affected by epidemic recently, in order to better grasp market trends and industry information, Dr. Deng Jun - Chairman of the Executive Committee of Macau International Airport Company Limited and Directors of related departments had a meeting with the delegation of Ms. Celia Lao, CEO of AirAsia (Hong Kong & Macau), and learned that because of the successful transformation of AirAsia two years ago, the impact during this period is not so great. Chairman Deng hopes that after the epidemic, CAM and AirAsia can cooperate together to quickly restore routes and expand new markets in the future on 3rd March 2020.

Chairman Deng revealed that CAM was very concerned about the development and changes of the aviation environment during this period. The movement in this period is at a trough, the CAM Epidemic Prevention Contingency Working Group proposed preferential policies for airlines and tenants, to pass out difficult times with each other. AirAsia joined Macau’s civil aviation market in 2004 and were closely cooperate with CAM within these 16 years to continuously develop new routes. The routes from Southeast Asia to Macau is very mature. During the epidemic period, Air Asia continued to operate limited flights and keeping in the top three positions in Macau’s market, and have full confidence that the Southeast Asian route can resume in a short time. Ms. Lao also said that the aviation industry has many uncertainties and has faced different challenges from time to time, they have accumulated experience. Coupled with the successful transformation of the Air Asia Group two years ago, they are confident to resume the market. Air Asia will gradually introduce the technology to apply at Macau International Airport which could improve both service and operational efficiency, and hoped that the optimization of policies could help Air Asia to build up the aviation network in Greater Bay Area.

Other participants in the meeting include: CAM – Ms. Grace Cheang, Director of Finance and Administration Department, Ms. Katy Lo, Director of Executive Committee Office, Mr. Eric Fong, Director of Marketing Department and Ms. Vicki Mou, Director of Corporate Communication & Policy Research Office, and Mr. Ricky Chan, Head of Airport, Market and Connectivity Development of Macau & Hong Kong of Air Asia.
