Macau International Airport BeiDou Satellite Real-time Settlement Monitoring System Presentation Ceremony12 Dec 2013

On 12 December 2013, the Presentation Ceremony of BeiDou Satellite Real-time Settlement Monitoring System has been held in Macau International Airport Passenger Terminal Building, as an appreciation gift from General Ye Zhengda, former Deputy Director of the Commission for Science & Technology of Commission for Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense of China. Honorable guests presided over the ribbon-cutting ceremony include Mr. Chui Sai On, Chief Executive of Macau Special Administrative Region, General Ye Zhengda, Mr. Tam Chon Weng, Chief of the Chief Executive Office, Mr. Ma Iao Hang, Chairman of the Board of Directors of CAM,  Mr. Charles Lo Keng Chio, President of the General Assembly of CAM, Dr. Deng Jun, Chairman of the Executive Committee of CAM and Mr. Zhou Ruxin, Chairman of the Board of Directors of BDStar Navigation Co., Ltd. Other witnessing guests include: Mr. Tsui Wai Kwan and Mr. Leong Sio Pui, Executive Directors of CAM and Dra. Paula Ling, the Company Secretary; Mr. Chan Hon Peng, Director of Meteorological and Geophysics Bureau of MSAR, Mr. Kevin Lam, Director of Airport Infrastructure and Air Navigation of Civil Aviation Authority of MSAR; Ms. Liu Suning, President of the Board of Directors of Administration of Airports. As expressing gratitude from General Ye Zhengda to MSAR Government for assisting the renovation of Mr. Ye Ting’s former residence in Macau, three sets of BeiDou satellite compatible GPS / GLONASS high-precision receivers have been presented to the Government. Currently, China has been entering into the critical period of BeiDou satellite navigation system development. The BeiDou satellite navigation system is already capable to provide continuous passive positioning, navigation, timing and other services in the Asia-Pacific region. The system is aimed to achieve global coverage in the future. Presently, Macau has been selected as the initial application place right after the system has achieved the coverage in the Asia-Pacific region. This new system can provide satellite positioning application and research purpose in MSAR, as well as enhancing the ability of information digitization. This three equipment installation has been installed in Macau International Airport, which can provide real-time settlement monitoring to the artificial runway island in the Airport.

Chief Executive Mr. Chui Sai On is very concerned about the implementation of the BeiDou system and required CAM to carry out an investigative study. After working and studying together with the BeiDou Navigation team. Under the great support of General Ye, Infrastructure Development Department of CAM submitted a detailed implementation proposal to the relevant MSAR Government. System design was started since mid-2013 once got approval from the MSAR Government. After confirming the installation point and equipment testing, the system is now in operation. The system is consisted of one station located on the roof of passenger terminal building, and two other monitoring stations located on both ends of the runway. This BeiDou compatible GPS / GLONASS system utilizes satellite navigation technology, combined with high-precision data processing algorithms, for transmission of real-time communication data using airport optical fiber network. This can be used as monitoring horizontal and vertical deformation displacement of the artificial runway island as well as data management and integration without interruption, 24 hours every day.

Been put into use in Macau International Airport, the BeiDou Satellite Real-time Settlement Monitoring System has solved the issue of monitoring deformation of the runway artificial island. This is particularly useful for future airport expansion and artificial island construction planning. At the same time, this “China design-and-made” system implementation in Macau is an important showcase project for industrial demonstration for the use in artificial reclaimed lands as well as global application of BeiDou Satellite System.
